The OGUK medical is required by some employers or companies before personnel can be deployed to some offshore workplaces around the world.

Oil & Gas UK is the leading representative body for the UK offshore oil and gas industry. It is a not-for-profit organisation, established in April 2007 but with a pedigree stretching back over 30 years. More info at www.oilandgasuk.co.uk

The medical must be undertaken by approved doctors or clinics.

A OGUK medical includes:

• Detailed Medical History
• Physical Examination - including doctors review and measurements of such things as height, weight, vision, urine
• Audiometry (hearing test)
• Spirometry (breathing test)
• Drug and alcohol urine screen

If you pass, you receive a certificate of fitness. This OGUK (formerly UKOOA) certificate is valid for 2 years, however some persons may be given certificates of shorter duration if they have medical problems that need earlier review.

It takes about 60-90minutes with the doctor and nurse. The Drug and Alcohol urine screen takes a few days to process and receive results from the lab. If you are pushed for time, you can organise to have the drug and alcohol screen before you come for your medical appointment. That will mean your results will be available at the time of your medical appointment, and if you are fit, you can get your fitness certificate immediately.

Cost through our clinic is $390. This includes the necessary audiometry (hearing test) and spirometry (breathing test) - these are done at our premises. We can take your Drug and Alcohol test at our clinic and send the sample to the pathology company for testing. We email or send your results to you, so you only have to visit the clinic once. We undertake a routine vaccine review as part of our medical check. We keep your results on file so you can email for advice if you require information about future trips. The only other expense is you need to pay is to the pathology lab for your Drug and Alcohol urine screen - this is about $90.

GST may be applicable depending on who is paying the bill - GST is payable on services where another person pays - eg the bill is made out to the company eg ABC Pty ltd. GST is not payable on medical services where the individual pays their own medical expenses (including consultation and vaccines etc).
